In [[font]]s, '''<code>.notdef</code>''' is a glyph shown when an application cannot find any glyphs corresponding to a [[Unicode]] codepoint. This is usually a white narrow box (nicknamed '''tofu'''; visually similar to ▯), sometimes crossed out or containing a question mark.

==In Toki Pona fonts==
Many [[Toki Pona]] fonts have unusual <code>.notdef</code> glyphs. This has been done both for practical purposes and for fun. In {{tp|[[sitelen pona]]}}, the typical <code>.notdef</code> glyphs could be mistaken for the running text {{tp|[[lipu]]}}, {{tp|lipu [[ala]]}}, and {{tp|lipu [[seme]]}} ({{sp|lipu|font="linja lipamanka"}}{{sp|lipu-ala|font="linja lipamanka"}}{{sp|lipu-seme|font="linja lipamanka"}}).

Many alternative designs are read as the font or system expressing confusion about the unsupported glyph. The font {{tp|[[linja sike]]}} uses tofu with the text "{{tp|[[sitelen]] [[ni]] [[li]] seme?}}" ({{lit|What is this symbol?}}). The font family {{tp|[[sitelen seli kiwen]]}} includes{{wh|original, or from where?}} a similar square "{{tp|[[ijo]] ni li seme?}}" ({{sp|ijo-ni-li-seme}}, {{lit|What is this thing?}}). More [[humor]]ously, {{tp|[[linja lipamanka]]}} displays a [[Latin-script]] {{w|image macro}} referencing the {{tp|[[ilo nanpa]]}} video: "{{tp|[[mi|MI]] [[sona|SONA]] [[ala|ALA]] [[a|A]]!}}" ({{lit|I don't understand!}}) over a confused {{w|Jackie Chan}} with a {{w|Sharingan}} for a right eye.
