Small glyphs

Small glyphs are a rare experimental feature in sitelen pona. They came about in the linja sike font, as a corner case of scaling a glyph within a space. For example, the ASCII transcription soweli zz-soweli would produce a large and small soweli glyph (soweli zz-soweli).[1]

Uses for small glyphs were usually technical and partly if not purely stylistic, such as merging a small compound glyph with a pi not specified as long (compare pi-__toki+pona with small pi1+toki+pona). There were also plans for small cartouches that would nest properly above extended glyph lines.[1] Since the replacement of linja sike with linja lipamanka, small glyphs are seldom if ever used.
