ISO 639-3: Difference between revisions

'''ISO 639-3''' is a three-letter {{wp|language code}} standard by the {{wp|International Organization for Standardization}} (ISO). It is widely used online for tagging and supporting content in multiple languages.

After rejected requests in 2008 and 2018, the ISO 639-3 Registration Authority adopted the identifier <code>tok</code> for [[Toki Pona]] on January 20, 2022. The [//iso639-3.sil.org/code/tok webpage] was updated on the 28th.

HTML and XML documents can mark Toki Pona text in a [//w3.org/WAI/WCAG21/Understanding/language-of-parts WCAG-compliant] way with the attribute <code>lang="tok"</code>. This {{wp|metadata}} enables unambiguous language detection, which will ideally enable support for Toki Pona hyphenation and ligature rules, [[Text-to-speech|speech synthesis]], and spelling and grammar checking. Toki Pona editions of more works will also be created.
