The Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis is a principle suggesting that the structure of a language influences its speakers' worldview or cognition, and thus individuals' languages determine or shape their perceptions of the world.

Many articles written about toki pona include claims like "[toki pona] is inspired by Taoism and the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis"[1]. However, none of those claims are supported by any evidence. jan Sonja has said "i dont think i ever said anything about SWH"[2]
