enko is an obscure, deprecated[1] post-pu content word relating to dimensional space.
Etymology[edit | edit source]
The word enko is a corruption of tenpo.[2] It was coined by jan Seli in January 2021 in the ma pona pi toki pona community,[3] partly to use as an alternative letter for e when writing her name as a cartouche in sitelen pona.[4]
Semantic space[edit | edit source]
The semantic space of enko includes space, location, distance, and size. It is a counterpart to tenpo, allowing for spatial equivalents of time phrases. Whereas tenpo can refer to a moment, the duration of an event, the period between two events, and the whole conceptual dimension of time, enko can refer to a place, the size of a thing, the distance between two things, and all conceptual dimensions of space.[5]
The semantic space of enko overlaps with lon (location), ma (space framed in terms of land), insa, and weka (distance).
sitelen pona[edit | edit source]
The word enko is not often used in sitelen pona. A proposed glyph (enko) represents a compass[6] indicating a cardinal direction such as north. It was designed by jan inwin on 4 March 2021 in the kulupu pali pi nimi ale Discord server.[primary source needed] Its shape is evocative of the glyphs for tenpo (tenpo), which similarly represents an analog clock, and ma (ma). In practice, it is unknown whether this glyph sees significant use.
