When typing in Toki Pona on various platforms, autocorrect features can disrupt spelling and capitalization. These features can generally be adjusted or turned off.

The first word of a Toki Pona sentence should not be capitalized.

Add to dictionary[edit | edit source]

Toki Pona words can be added to the autocorrect dictionary, so that the device doesn't change them anymore.

Use another input method[edit | edit source]

Using an input method designed for Toki Pona might circumvent autocorrect.

Disable autocorrect[edit | edit source]

You can disable autocorrect or auto-capitalization. Of course, this also turns these features off for other languages, so this option may not be desired.

iOS[edit | edit source]

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Go to General → Keyboard.
  3. To stop spelling corrections, turn off Auto-Correct.
  4. To stop capitalization corrections, turn off Auto-Capitalization.

Android[edit | edit source]

Samsung Keyboard[edit | edit source]

  1. Go to Samsung Keyboard's settings with one of these steps:
    • Press the gear icon on the keyboard.
    • Open the Settings app → System&updates → Language&input ( → On-screen keyboard) → Samsung keyboard
    • or Settings → General management → Samsung keyboard settings, depending on the phone
  2. Find "Auto replace" / "Auto capitalize" (might be listed under "Smart typing")

Gboard[edit | edit source]

  1. Go to Gboard's settings with one of these steps:
    • Long press on the key next to the key that brings you to the special characters (usually ,)
    • or press the gear from the action menu above the letters
    • or go to the Settings app → System&updates (or General management) → Language&input ( → On-screen keyboard) → Gboard
  2. Find "Text correction" and uncheck "Auto-correction" / "Auto-capitalisation"

Microsoft Word[edit | edit source]

  1. Go to File → Options → Proofing → Autocorrect Options.
  2. To stop spelling corrections, turn off "Replace text as you type".
  3. To stop capitalization corrections, turn off "Capitalize first letter of sentences".

Google Docs[edit | edit source]

  1. Go to Tools → Preferences → General.
  2. To stop spelling corrections, turn off "Automatically correct spelling".
  3. To stop capitalization corrections, turn off "Automatically capitalize words".
