The Toki Pona Bible Project (lipu sewi pi toki pona) is an effort to translate the Bible into Toki Pona, covering the Old and New Testaments, as well as apocrypha. The translation is released under the CC0 public domain dedication.[1]

The project was started on 13 November 2022 by jan Kupa (@jkonsi on Discord). As of February 3, 2024, 874 out of 38 450 verses (2.3%) have been translated.[2]

lipu kalama Sona Sewi is a podcast featuring dramatic readings of the works. The first episode was released on September 23, 2023 for the Book of Jonah, the first fully translated book.[3]

Methodology[edit | edit source]

Members of the translation team are divided into roles: translator, proofreaders, and biblical language specialist. Each verse is translated in a separate thread on the Discord server. While it's recommended to translate from the original texts in Biblical Hebrew and Koiné Greek or interlinear glosses thereof, English editions are also allowed as source texts. After a verse is deemed complete, a proofreader checks the grammar to make sure it's grammatically valid and understandable. Then, a language specialist ensures the structure and meaning are as close as can be to the original versions. Finally, the verse is placed in the public GitHub repository.[4]
