Etymology edit
The word pika is derived from Pikachu, an Electric-type species of Pokémon that serves as the mascot of the Pokémon media franchise. Pikachu's name in all languages is borrowed from Japanese ピカチュウ (Pikachū, "Pikachu"), from ピカピカ (pikapika, "glittering, sparkling") + チュー (chū, "squeak"). pika was coined by Kriskee_ in 2021.[citation needed]
Semantic space edit
The semantic space of pika includes electricity such as thunder and lightning, conductivity, and electronics. It can also be used similarly to linluwi to describe the internet and other networks.[citation needed]
sitelen pona edit
The sitelen pona glyph for pika (pika) depicts a common cartoon simplification of a thunderbolt. By coincidence, but potentially confusingly, the same shape is used within the glyph for pakala (pakala).
