The word {{tp|sipi}} is derived from {{w|Latin language|Latin}} ''{{lang|la|sibi}}'', the {{w|dative case}} of the reflexive pronoun. The word {{tp|sipi}} predated {{tp|[[sitelen pona]]}}; a glyph was later{{wh|when?|date=2024-04-09}} proposed{{wh|by whom?|date=2024-04-09}} so that it could be used in the writing system. The proposed glyph ({{sp|sipi}}) is a circle with an attached arrow pointing to itself, somewhat reminiscent of the other pronoun glyphs. In practice, it is unknown whether the glyph sees significant use.
