The word kulupu is derived from Tongan kulupu, itself from English group.[1]
Semantic space Edit
The semantic space of kulupu includes all kinds of groups, collections, and sets, especially those whose elements have something in common.
It can refer to groups of people such as societies, communities, nations, and organizations. This sense can also be specified with kulupu jan, if all of the members of the group are jan.
kulupu is also widely used to describe plural systems,[2][a] and many systems use it as a collective headnoun instead of jan (although members of such systems often individually use jan).

The sitelen pona glyph for kulupu () is a group of three circle radicals (compare ijo) arranged in a triangle. Sometimes the word kulupu is modified by arranging three copies of the modifier's glyph into the triangular layout.
