is an abridged Toki Pona translation of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, originally by L. Frank Baum. It was translated by Sonja Lang and illustrated by Evan Dahm. It was released on 3 February 2024.

It is the third book in the Official Toki Pona series,[1] and the first entry in the su series of illustrated story books.[2]

Oz (Toki Pona edition) is printed in the sitelen pona writing system using the nasin nanpa font, with literal English translations, originally summaries,[3] included to help beginners.[4] It is also a requirement by the publishing partner to include one of the supported languages.[5]

Cover and illustrations[edit | edit source]

The book features several illustrations from Evan Dahm, illustrator and owner of the website rice-boy.com.[6] Emmanuelle Richard helped with formatting the cover.[7]

In addition to nimi ku suli, the word majuna, which was classified as a nimi ku lili, appears three times in the book.[8][9]

The credits page uses nasin nanpa pona to denote the copyright year.[10]

Specific to sitelen pona[edit | edit source]

Oz spotlighted a preexisting[11] but little-known style of shortening names to their first glyph after their first occurrence in a given chapter. For example, Dorothy's name may be either written as:

A few words use different glyphs than the ones introduced in pu or ku. Some of them have two variants used for different sub-meanings: mute is written with the pu-style (mute) for "many", but with four hand radicals (mute2) for "twenty",[10][12] and sewi uses the religious (sewi) and secular (sewi2) forms as appropriate.[13][14]

The book uses pi (pi) as a standalone glyph rather than employing a long pi. Corner brackets are used as quotation marks for dialogue. No other punctuation is used. Sentences start with a new line, and for long sentences that span multiple lines, sentence-structuring particles are aligned vertically.
