Etymology Edit
The word jume is derived from Japanese 夢 (Hepburn: yume), meaning "dream". It was coined in 2021 by jan Seli in the ma pona pi toki pona community, as a criticism to the word isipin, which she deemed "poorly thought out and not useful".[1][2]
Semantic space Edit
The semantic space of jume includes dreams, imagination, and hope. By extension, it may refer to fantasy and falsehood without a negative connotation, unlike the word powe.[3]
The words pilin ("to feel"), powe ("false"), and wile ("to want") have similar but, according to jan Seli, not identical semantic spaces to jume.
sitelen pona Edit
The word jume is not often used in sitelen pona. A proposed glyph (jume)[by whom? when?] is composed of the lape glyph (lape) with emitters above. In practice, it is unknown whether this glyph sees significant use.
