lonsi is a joke word used in ma pona pi toki pona, having no set meaning beyond the tautology "lonsi li lonsi."
The earliest mention of the current word lonsi was in 2023, although there were previous mentions of lonsi likely unrelated to the current word.[1] It originated as a portmanteau between the word tonsi and lon (as an interjection meaning "true! I agree!"). The word spread through repeated mention of it in the #kama-pona and #toki-pona channels, mainly by niko, akasi Aliki, and jan Emikili.

penpo is a joke word used to refer to the server's tenpo pi toki pona taso event as the rhyme tenpo penpo.[2] It is often used more broadly as a synonym of toki pona taso.

As of 2024, penpo started to significantly outpace its preexisting antonym kokosila in public usage,[3] despite having no book presence (in contrast to kokosila's nimi ku suli status) and no data in the Linku online dictionary for some time before its provisional sandbox entry. It still only has about half as many cumulative uses due to the lead time between the words' coinings.[4]
Etymology[edit | edit source]
The word penpo is an intentionally rhyming corruption of the word tenpo, referring to the timeframe of the toki pona taso event, and presumably influenced by the pi in the event name. It was coined by jan Kita in ma pona pi toki pona on 21 March 2023.[2]
sitelen pona[edit | edit source]
A sitelen pona glyph for penpo (penpo)[by whom? when?] depicts a sun with a smile that matches the appearance of pona (pona) as a scaled glyph. The sun shape differs from the glyph for suno (suno), having more rays (typically 8) that are detached.
