The word misikeke is derived from Ojibwe mashkiki, meaning "medicine, drug". It was coined by jan Sonja.[1][2]

The most commonly used sitelen pona glyph for misikeke (󱦇) represents a pill capsule. It was designed in July 2020 by nimi Elemenopi.[4][5] Another proposed glyph (misikeke2), designed by jan Muna and jan Sala in 2021, depicts a mortar and pestle,[6] a tool traditionally used in many cultures for creating medicine, among other uses.

The sitelen sitelen glyph for misikeke represents a mortar and pestle. It was inspired by the glyphs for kasi (kasi) and poki (poki). The glyph was designed by Jonathan Gabel (jan Josan), lon Jawin, jan Pensa, and jan Saki in 2021.[7]
