aAANUSEMEmailMahjong is an inside joke in some Toki Pona communities, occasionally used as a nonsensical mutation of the question tag anu seme. It originated in the ma pona pi toki pona Discord server.

History

On 11 July 2020, in ma pona pi toki pona, kala pona Tonyu posted the message "aaaa", and palisa jelo Natan tried to react to it with "'a a (a)' anu seme?". The emojis used ( 🅰️ 🇦 🇳 🇺 🇸 🇪 🇲 📧 🀄.) were slightly garbled due to emoji reactions disallowing repeat characters, leading to the second E using the email emoji, and possibly eliding a third repetition of a.^{[but why the mahjong tile?]} They were reread as "(a A) ANU SEM[E] email mahjong", run together due to the usual lack of whitespace characters in emoji reactions.

Witnesses to the message joking defined aAANUSEMEmailMahjong as a question particle or "to react to someone's message with" these emojis.^{[better source needed…]}This claim needs references to better sources:
