The word moli is derived from Acadian French mourir, meaning "to die".[1]
Semantic space[edit | edit source]
The semantic space of moli includes death and killing. It overlaps with that of pini ("to end") and pakala ("broken"), but it tends to refer to irreversible damage.[2]
As an intransitive verb, moli means "to die". As a transitive verb, it means "to kill", as in "to cause to become dead".

The sitelen pona glyph for moli () represents a head with eyes crossed out.
An alternative glyph for moli (moli) removes the circle, and may also place the two eyes above a line, representing the mouth. It was designed by jan Lentan.[4] This variant is primarily used in pixelated fonts. The main glyph would require a horizontal resolution of 11 pixels to be legible, while this alternative takes only 7 pixels, fitting into a common 8-pixel-wide character cell with one pixel for spacing.
