sama is a core preposition and content word. It is used to make comparisons.

Etymology[edit | edit source]

The word sama is derived from Finnish sama, meaning "same", and Esperanto sama, itself from English same.[1]

Semantic space[edit | edit source]

The semantic space of sama includes similarity, thus describing objects and ideas with qualities in common, as well as their equivalence.[2]

sitelen ni li sama.

Preposition[edit | edit source]

When used as a preposition, sama indicates that the preceding phrase is like the prepositional phrase.

mi sama jan ante.
