itomi is a marginal content word relating to schadenfreude.
Etymology[edit | edit source]
The word itomi is derived from English hit-or-miss, in reference to a memetic lyric from the diss track "Mia Khalifa":
Hit or miss, I guess they never miss, huh?
According to Linku, itomi was coined by "jan Wesu OR jan inwin, jan Lemon"[what does that even mean?] in 2019.
Semantic space[edit | edit source]
The semantic space of itomi includes schadenfreude (pleasure derived from someone else's misfortune) as well as subtle and indirect insults and disrespect.
sitelen pona[edit | edit source]
The word itomi is not often used in sitelen pona. A proposed glyph (itomi) was designed by nimi Elemenopi in July 2020.[1][2] It is derived from the pu glyph for meli (meli) with a check mark shape below. In practice, it is unknown whether this glyph sees significant use.
