kamalawala is a rare content word and post-pu nimi ku lili relating to revolution.

Etymology[edit | edit source]

The word kamalawala is derived from the phrase kama pi lawa ala, meaning "to become without rulers, to become independent". This is from the poem "jan pi kamalawala" by jan Sojapoja.[a][1][2] jan Kipo is credited with turning it into a word instead of a name.[citation needed]

Semantic space[edit | edit source]

The semantic space of kamalawala includes revolution and uprising, the attempt achieve change in political power. It also refers to anarchy, a political philosophy without rulers.[3]

The sitelen pona glyph for kamalawala (kamalawala) is derived from the Circle-A, a common anarchist symbol. It is composed of the capital letter A surronded by a circle. UCSUR fonts may use a zero-width joiner (ZWJ) between the glyphs for kama pi lawa ala to produce the single glyph character for kamalawala.[5][6]
