The word nena is derived from Finnish nenä (/ˈnenæ/, "nose").[1]

The semantic space of nena includes bumps and protrusions, something that extends from above or beyond a surface. A nena can be of any width and height, and may or may not be spiky. Examples include hills, piles, spikes, ridges, greebles, studs, and buttons.
