The etymology of the word sinpin is unclear. nimi ale pona claims that it is derived from Cantonese 前邊 (Jyutping: cin4 bin1), meaning "in front".[1]

sitelen pona[edit | edit source]

The sitelen pona glyph for sinpin (󱥟) is derived from the open box radical, rotated with the opening on the left, with a location dot placed on the right, behind it from the convention writing direction. Compare the glyphs for anpa, insa, monsi, and poka, as well as the secular version of sewi.
