Etymology
The word kulupu is derived from Tongan kulupu meaning "group", itself from English group.[1]
Semantic space
The semantic space of kulupu includes all kinds of groups, collections, and sets, especially those whose elements have something in common.
It can refer to groups of people such as societies, communities, nations, and organizations. This sense can also be specified with kulupu jan, if all of the members of the group are jan.
kulupu is also widely used to describe plural systems,[2][a] and many systems use it as a headnoun instead of jan.
