we is a marginal particle that transitions from one complete sentence to another.

For technical reasons, this particle is often differentiated from the content word we as we1 in Linku and fonts with ASCII transcription, despite predating the content word by several years.

Etymology[edit | edit source]

The word we is derived from colloquial Mexican Spanish güey, meaning "dude, guy"; Linku compares this to the use of English man as a "sentence tag". It was coined by jan inwin in 2019.
