oke is an uncommon interjection and post-pu nimi ku lili used to indicate approval and acceptance, loaned from English okay.

Etymology[edit | edit source]

The word oke was borrowed from English OK / okay. It is unclear when or by whom it was coined, as it is such as a common word.[1] The oldest uses on ma pona pi toki pona are by janKala in June and July 2017,[2][3] after which others began to use it.

ke is an obscure interjection used as a variant of oke.[5] It was coined by jan Maliku and jan Kisinja around 2015 independently from oke and brought it to ma pona pi toki pona community in late 2017,[1][6] derived from a shorterning of oke borrowed from English 'kay.

The sitelen pona glyph for ke (ke) is derived from the punctuation stem and the uppercase Latin letter K. The punctuation stem can be drawn upright (ke) or at a diagonal (ke). Compare the glyphs for a, kin, n, o, and wa.

The sitelen pona glyph for oki (oki) depicts a checkmark. nimi Elemenopi used this design for oke in July 2020,[7] and extended it to ke and oki as of August of that year.[8]
